Whether in California or New York, we will locate and contact all relevant parties, by investigative means if necessary. We accomplish all logistical responsibilities and tasks.

DNA Forensic Testing

DNA evidence has become more and more prevalent in criminal proceedings.
Social demand for better scientific evidence is changing legislation, creating an enormous backlog of cases. Suspects and convicted criminals want testing by an unbiased lab to prove their innocence. Law enforcement sometimes needs cases
handled quickly, which is often impossible for overburdened government crime labs.

Throughout history people have used physical characteristics to identify each other. Physical characteristics, however, can be disguised. For example, if a man or woman commits a crime and a witness recalls that the suspect had blond hair and blue eyes, it will be extremely difficult to find that individual for several reasons. They are:

  1. There are any number of people in the world today that have blond hair and blue eyes.
  2. It’s easy to buy colored contact lenses to disguise the color of their eyes.
  3. They could very easily dye their hair, or even artificially darken their skin.

With the advent of more sophisticated identification methods, especially DNA testing, identification of individuals has become virtually foolproof.

WSDS offers relief to clients who need reliable DNA proof quickly, and in secret. This would include:

Paternity Testing
As many a 1 in 10 people have some doubt about which their father is. Testing for paternity as early as possible will help bring Peace of Mind sooner, and save a child from a future of confusion and anxiety. At WSDS, we provide the answers to paternity and other life altering questions quickly, painlessly and compassionately.
This testing includes:

Semen Detection/Infidelity Testing
Determines if semen is present in a stain on a garment and proves if there is a genetic match or mismatch of a provided sample and the stain. (see samples)

Infidelity Test
The infidelity test compares the DNA present in the sperm from the semen detection sample, to a reference/suspect sample. A simple buccal swab sample is all that is required for reference comparison; however, when confidentiality is at issue, non-standard samples can also be tested.

Once the reference sample is received, the DNA is extracted from both the semen detection sample and the reference sample. DNA profiles are then obtained and a comparison of the genetic systems is analyzed and interpreted. The client will receive a report, which either excludes the parties, meaning a non-match; or includes with an inclusion probability. (see samples)

Testing for Epithelial Cells (skin)
Epithelial cells, also known as E-cells, are skin cells, which flake or shed off naturally by the human body. If a client wants to compare cells, male or female, on a stained article, a presumptive Semen Detection Test must first be performed to locate the area of probable DNA accumulation. If an affair is suspected, this detection assists in pinpointing the suspect area thru the DNA.

A differential extraction can then be performed to separate the male and female DNA components. As with the Infidelity Test, a simple buccal swab reference sample is all that is required for comparison purposes.

Drug Tests
This can challenge a tested person’s positive drug test results, and claims a lab has switched the collected sample. This type of allegation is often made by tested parties in an effort to save their job, livelihood and reputations.

“Non lab” office, or home 6-panel tests may be ordered by phone or E-mail.
This testing may be used for fieldwork as a “spot check” in any industry situation, and works well at home for minors, home workers or nannies.

DNA Banking

DNA-Safekeeping for up to 5 years.

Types of Samples for Testing:

WSDS is able to accept most articles for testing; however, size of the article is important. If a suspect article is too large to fit in a standard Express document box, please call in advance.

Legal Admissibility

As with any test needed for legal purposes, a strict chain-of-custody must follow semen detection and/or infidelity samples if the evidence is to be used in a court of law. Generally, when legal admissibility is an issue, a Private Investigator, Attorney representative, or other disinterested third party must be hired to collect the sample, as appropriate. Most semen detection and infidelity test samples are self-collected, which are generally non-legally binding.

Each person’s situation is as unique as his or her own DNA. A knowledgeable WSDS Investigator or Case Manager will help determine the testing procedure that is appropriate for each situation.
